LIBRARY TO HOST RIT PROFESSOR FOR MLK TALK

ITHACA---Rochester Institute of Technology Professor Vincent Golphin will make a much-anticipated return to the Tompkins County Public Library, Wednesday, February 9 at 6:00 PM to present “The Writings of Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X and the American Conscience.”
Golphin first visited the Library in 2009 to discuss his intensive research on the murder of Emmett Till. His talk and subsequent discussion with the audience were so well received that the he was asked to return.

An award-winning journalist, poet, professor and lecturer, Golphin will compare, during his Library presentation, the histories and influences of MLK and Malcolm X and the challenge the human rights leaders mapped out for generations to come. The talk will highlight the moral arguments made in the books, speeches and writings of King and X, describe how their life experiences led them to action and assess how their work affected the nation’s moral conscience.

This program will be held in the Library’s BorgWarner Community Room. It is free and open to the public and has been made possible by the New York State Council for Humanities.
